ABOUT
Anthems of Dialogue (AoD) is an innovative commissioning project that embodies music’s power to move, inspire, and connect. Guided by the urgent question, “What does dialogue for peace mean in our world today?”, the project uplifts empathy and listening at a time when conflict and division dominate public discourse.
This initiative features new works by narrative-driven composer and flutist Erin Spencer, DownBeat award-winning saxophonist Caroline Davis, and José Valentino, a Latin GRAMMY®, EMMY, and Global Music award-winning composer and flutist. The AoD project pulses with intention as it invites audiences to go deeper and engage with each work’s message, reflecting through their own lived experiences. Each new work powerfully explores how music can bridge community gaps and drive societal progress by addressing urgent matters such as the planet Earth’s climate, dismantling systems of control such as mass incarceration, and choosing humanity over political and cultural warfare.
In performance, these stories are held with care, offering guided prompts for reflection, and creating a space where multiple truths can coexist. BETA Quartet believes dialogue is not only spoken but also felt, often through presence, vulnerability, and even discomfort. Music makes this possible in profound ways.
